PackOS Checkout

PackOS vs Intuitive Shipping

The box comes first, then the rate.

PackOS Checkout comes at the order box-first: it packs against your box library, quotes live USPS, UPS and FedEx rates for the box it picked, and — when the label is bought through PackOS Labels — the order carries what that label actually cost. That is the margin loop. Shopify today — WooCommerce and other platforms coming soon.

The core difference

What each one is built to do

Intuitive Shipping gives merchants a rules engine — conditions, scenarios and blended rates the merchant configures — and SmartBoxing, which packs cart items into boxes the merchant has defined. Merchants who want the checkout to follow a policy they have written down get a lot out of that shape.

PackOS Checkout comes at the same order box-first: it packs against your box library, quotes live USPS, UPS and FedEx rates for the box it picked, and — when the label is bought through PackOS Labels — the order carries what that label actually cost. That is the margin loop. Shopify today — WooCommerce and other platforms coming soon.

When Intuitive Shipping is the better choice

Intuitive Shipping is a mature Shopify rate app, with a rules engine and its own packing. There are real situations where it is the right tool for the job.

  • You want scenario-level control over what checkout showsIntuitive Shipping is built so a merchant can describe a shipping policy in conditions and scenarios and have the checkout follow it. If your policy is a set of decisions you would rather state directly, that control is the product you are buying, and it is a good one.
  • Your rates follow a policy you have written downWhere the shipping answer is a set of decisions — which service shows, to whom, at what price — a rules engine states it directly instead of deriving it. Intuitive Shipping is built for exactly that, and scenarios you can read back are worth having.
  • You already have a rules setup you trustConditions and scenarios that match how you really ship are real work that took real time. If yours already produce rates you are happy with, staying is a reasonable answer — and this page is here for the day you want to compare the two.

When PackOS is the better choice

PackOS Checkout was built for Shopify merchants who want the rate their customer sees to match the box the order actually ships in.

  • Stores with varied product sizesIf your catalog includes items of different dimensions and orders often combine multiple products, bin-packing ensures the right box is selected for every order — and rates reflect actual shipping cost.
  • You want accurate checkout rates without codingPackOS Checkout uses bin-packing to determine the right box, then queries carriers with the actual dimensions and weight. Your customers see real rates at Shopify checkout — no development work, no API integration, no custom code.
  • Stores losing money on shippingIf you suspect shipping is a cost center but cannot prove it, PackOS margin analytics show exactly how much you make or lose on shipping for every order. No spreadsheets, no manual matching.

Switching

  • Nothing to cancel: PackOS Checkout bills through Shopify and the 14-day trial applies to the plan you choose.

FAQ

PackOS and Intuitive Shipping, answered

How does PackOS Checkout know which box to quote?
You load your box library into PackOS Checkout — the same boxes you actually use to pack orders. When a customer checks out, PackOS runs a 3D bin-packing algorithm across the cart items and picks the optimal box. That box's dimensions are what gets sent to the carriers for the rate quote.
Does PackOS Checkout work with carrier-calculated rates I already have?
PackOS Checkout replaces native carrier-calculated rates with more accurate versions. It registers as a Shopify carrier service (WooCommerce and other platforms coming soon). You can keep other rate sources enabled; PackOS Checkout quotes against the box the order will actually ship in.
Do I need PackOS Labels to use PackOS Checkout?
No. PackOS Checkout works standalone — you can keep buying labels wherever you buy them today. However, using PackOS Labels alongside Checkout means the rate your customer saw at checkout is the rate you pay for the label. No margin leak between quote and label.
What happens when an order needs more than one box?
If an order is too large for any single box, PackOS Checkout splits it across multiple packages and quotes the total accurately. No under-quoting on big orders.
